Green-up your weekend in a most artistic sort of way… UPDATE

West End Greenway 7Help beautify the West End Greenway!

NOTE: Wow, that didn’t take long!  No sooner did we send out our promo notice for the West End Greenway event (see below) than one of the organizers called us.  Apparently there’s been a late cancellation!  More details (and a new date) pending…

But for all those who are up for incorporating a little green into your weekend, we recommend the following excellent alternative: the annual Strathcona & Cottonwood Community Garden Open House.  Top notch stuff!  More details here.

A late announcement about the West End Greenway project that we’ve been lending a hand with over the years.

The first big installation and transformation of the pedestrian area behind King George Secondary School and the West End Community Centre takes place this weekend.  Currently, a rather unattractive concrete walkway runs between a sports field and tennis courts, linking together a variety of residential streets.  Here’s a chance to amp of the space and lend some vitality to a well-used, but neglected pathway.

Following on a series excellent mosaic workshops held a few months ago it’s time to transform the site into a beautiful community art project.  Lots of volunteers are needed, so if you’re in the neighbourhood please consider joining in the effort.  It’ll be oodles of fun and is a  great chance to do some space-making in the West End.  Drop by, lend a hand for a bit, make a day of it. And if you feel like chilling out afterward, the beach is right around the corner.

The fun gets underway, Saturday July 10, starting at 10 am.  Meet at the site – just walk around behind the West End Community Centre (located on Denman Street between Barclay and Haro.
